Communication
Approaching conflicts such as financial troubles require a baseline understanding of what processes and patterns your family uses to communicate. One process in communication is cohesion. The different levels of cohesion in a family system are: Disengaged- the lowest level where there is a lot of separation, Connected- families have some cohesiveness with a little involvement in each others lives, Cohesive- family has emotional closeness and loyalty with a good balance of independence, and Enmeshed- family is extremely close with little independence from one another. Knowing your family's level of cohesion will help you understand the dynamic from which your conflict is coming. This knowledge will help you solve the conflict in a more effective way.
Another important aspect of family dynamics that will aid in assessing a conflict is your family’s adaptability or flexibility. This is how your family adjusts to change. If your family is very rigid or very adaptable it will change how you should address your conflict.
